There is no doubt the culinary world has been influenced by pop culture. As the Food Network became a household name, chefs’ profiles increased dramatically, shedding some serious light on the previously-mysterious activities of the back of the house. New restaurants popped up with windows into the kitchen, where diners get an inside look at the life of a professional food prep, the craziness of the Friday dinner rush fully exposed. Local chefs became mini-celebrities. The rise of social media has certainly helped things along. Encouraging collaborations from the restaurant next door, to the restaurant across the globe, chefs have [...]
With Thanksgiving behind us, I’m officially in the giving mood. And I’ll admit, I’ve been pretty inspired by local businesses around us. From Chutney Masala and Sambal Thai & Malaysian closing for Thanksgiving so their team can offer a hot meal to those in need at their sister restaurant, Old Monk, in NYC to Bonnie Saran and her collection of “Littles” offering a free Thanksgiving buffet to those in need right here in Westchester, it’s amazing to see how many local businesses are actively giving back to the community. Knowing my foodie friends as I do, I know you’ll also [...]
IntoxiKate (that's me!), Chef Jay Lippin, and Crabtree's Kittle House were recently featured on Restaurant Hunter on Verizon Fios. The episode, titled Fighting Hunger Together!, focuses on September’s Eating for Orange campaign in collaboration with Food Bank for Westchester during Hunger Action Month. For me, it’s super symbolic for the show to air on Thanksgiving. I’m lucky to be featured alongside Chef Jay Lippin with the beautiful backdrop of Crabtree’s Kittle House in Chappaqua. I’m also extremely grateful to represent the 25+ restaurants who participated in the initiative. THANK YOU! Click here to watch the episode.

When executive chef Jay Lippin isn't whipping up his uber-local and utterly delicious menu items in the Crabtree's Kittle House kitchen, he may be consulting with Slow Food. Or maybe he's at a meeting with the Chef's Alliance. He could also be working with Food Bank for Westchester on An Evening in Good Taste, or even brainstorming with them on upcoming initiatives with their food waste program. With the Hudson Valley Seed Library Kitchen Cultivars program, Lippin helps reduce food waste with a non-profit organization that harvests seeds to preserve heirloom seed varieties. Or, he could be driving north along the Hudson [...]
