New Restaurant in Greenwich: CHAR

Last week, I was invited to the grand opening party of a new restaurant in Greenwich, CT— CHAR Restaurant. A hop, skip and a jump away from the food mecca that’s sprouted up in Port Chester, CHAR will have a lot to compete against (with Greenwich also carrying some heavy hitters for dining options). But Executive Chef David Snyder is up to the task.

#Menu

Seafood lover? CHAR is for you. The passed appetizers Chef Snyder prepared for the grand opening almost all featured a variety of shellfish and fish, giving guests a glimpse of the menu. Both small plates and entrées include fish options like tuna tartar bruschetta ($8), house-cured tequila salmon ($12) and pan roasted striped bass served with a cauliflower puree, oyster mushrooms and wilted spinach. Chef Snyder recommends trying the char grilled octopus served with garlic confit and a lemon-oregano dressing ($15).

If you’re looking to fill your belly with a heavier meal, try the pork chop ($26.50), lamb bolognese ($21.50) or New York strip steak ($27.50). Before ordering, definitely consider the specials where Chef Synder says he like to “play” with local ingredients and flavors to offer seasonal dishes.

#Decor

With exposed stone, silver washed walls and chandeliers, CHAR has an upscale look. The bar area has a lounge feel, and is completely separate from the dining room which features a beautiful fireplace (keep that in mind for those cooler months!).

#Ambiance

CHAR offers plenty of specialty cocktails ($12) and small plates to share for a friends’ night out, yet the upscale feel of the dining room makes it the perfect place for date night.

Intoxikate Tip!

Dress to impress for the Greenwich crowd.
