It all started with a box of Velveeta Macaroni and Cheese.
And yet, years later, I write that and cringe. How could I possibly call myself a foodie, when boxed mac ‘n’ cheese is where my story starts? Sigh. I digress…
My obsession with food started when I was in elementary school. My mother never really enjoyed cooking—well, until recently—so the pantry was always stocked with the dinner-in-a-jiffy basics: dry spaghetti, pasta sauce and a rotating wheel of unused spices. One evening, my mom was working late, so I decided to surprise her with a hot meal waiting when she came home. I don’t know if it was the expression of pure gratitude on her face, or the joy of actually cooking, but I was hooked. From that point on, I was in charge of dinner.
When I moved to Westchester almost a decade ago, I really learned to appreciate food. REAL food. I came from the Land of Chain Restaurants. No longer was Olive Garden the only place I could grab an “Italian” meal. Instead, some of the most delicious dishes were set in front of me, using some of the freshest ingredients and latest culinary skills. It was food to get excited about.
And so, the IntoxiKate Mission…
It’s no secret some of the best food in the world is a short Metro North train ride away. But why venture to the big city when some of the most talented chefs are making their way out, creating some of the best culinary dishes right in our own backyard?
I created IntoxiKate.com to change the way food is experienced in Westchester. I hope to create an environment where you can be in the know on the latest events, interact with chefs, and taste the latest culinary trends. It’s about finding new restaurants. It’s about falling in love with dishes. And it’s all right here.
It’s ALL about living life deliciously.
