Last week, I sat down with contributor Jeanne Muchnick to talk food and wine at the new Stone Manor 101 in Hawthorne. Opened by the same restaurant group that brought you Goldfish Oyster Bar and Restaurant (Ossining) and Casa Rina Restaurant (Thornwood), the new spot functions as both Mediterranean steakhouse and catering facility.

#Menu

When you call a restaurant a steakhouse, it’s pretty obvious what the highlight of the menu will be. Several cuts are available—Porter House, NY Strip, Filet Mignon and Prime Rib (only available Thursday to Saturday). Choose your sauce and sides, and you’re good to go. If you’ve brought a date whose cutting back on their red meat intake, there are plenty of alternative options like maple-gazed salmon ($24.01), stuffed roasted chicken ($20.01) and butternut squash crepes ($18.01). Notice anything with the prices yet?

For $31.01, the restaurant also offers a four-course menu featuring some of their steak options, but also offers some “specials” that are not on the regular menu. Select an appetizer, entrée, side dish and dessert, and you’ll be leaving with more than a full belly.

During my visit, I started with a large crab cake, packed with plump pieces of crabmeat, and finished with fennel, orange and dill.

Jeanne had a watermelon Napoleon. While the fruit and cheese layers were a great mix, I wish the watermelon was more on the juicy side.

I went light for the second course—Jeanne’s steak was enough for the table!—and opted for the branzino. Two large portions of the thin filets arrived, seasoned perfectly. It was perfect match to the broccoli rabbi side dish.

For dessert, I went for vanilla and chocolate sorbet, which was a good decision. Ordered at the beginning of the meal, I had no idea how full I’d feel at the end of the first courses. The sorbet was so creamy, I would have sworn it was ice cream!

#Decor

The exterior of Stone Manor 101 doesn’t do it justice. Don’t get me wrong—the stonework is beautiful—but I thought the Mediterranean steakhouse would be much more “man cave” inside. I was pleasantly surprised to find some really elegant touches and an more upscale feel. Both the bar, restaurant and catering space have beautiful lighting, and these small touches offset the stonework on the walls and fireplaces (note, there are more than one!). The dining room is large, so you’ll have enough elbow room to dig in to those steaks.

Ambiance

Stone Manor 101 has hotel vibe—a mix of lounge and dining environments—with more of a homey feel. Diners were a mix of young and old, but there weren’t too many families with small children in the crowd.
Jeanne and I happened to sit next to a large window facing the eatery’s fire pit. Although we couldn’t feel the heat, it was nice to see a member of the waitstaff walk out occasionally and throw another log on the fire.

IntoxiKate Tip!

Mentioned during the IntoxiKate segment on The Lisa Wexler Show, Stone Manor 101 was selected for a new happy hour spot. Think lounge, think salted pretzel martini, think small bites. To read more, click here.

IntoxiKate Tip!

The Stone Manor 101 gives off that upscale dinner party vibe. So why not throw one? A semi-private space off the dining room features a long table where you can dine with about 20 friends. A long window gives you all a sneak peek into the kitchen.
