Although I wasn’t sure if my exposed ankles could take the cool, crisp autumn air, the promise of a good beer tasting encourage me to take a seat at last night’s Harvest Moon Beer Dinner, hosted by Captain Lawrence Brewery. The folks at the brewery created a beautiful ambiance in the beer garden, with picnic tables donned with growlers and flowers, the tunes of Rebecca Haviland of Whiskey Heart hung gently in the air.
Here’s the event recap, in photos:
The four-course dinner was served plated, but guest-goers got nice and comfy at the extended picnic table.
The highlight of the evening was most definitely the Smoke from the Oak Apple Brandy Aged Smoked Porter. Although the sour Hops and Roses (not pictured) won an award recently, this smokey porter was talked about throughout the dinner.
The porter was served with a venison and wild herb gremolata, served up by Carl Van Dekker of Tarrytown’s The Village Dog.
CLB’s Xtra gold was served with butternut squash soup with grilled Brussels sprouts (pictured below).
The third course (picture above) paired porchetta, grilled polenta cake and creamed chard with the sour Hops and Roses. For the fourth course, CLB finished with the Golden Delicious served with Van Dekker’s apple cobbler.
