I envy brides.
Ok, it’s not what you think—I’m not on cloud nine, daydreaming about the day where I can walk down the aisle in some bell-of-the-ball white dress. I am jealous of brides—particularly in Westchester—because they have custom menus prepared exclusively for them by Eric Korn.
If you’ve heard of Good-Life Gourmet or tasted Korn’s food, you know he’s a stellar caterer. (I mean, he did just pin down the Best Caterer ’13 title from Westchester Magazine.) With his attention to detail, persistence with presentation and culinary skills, it’s hard to imagine him churning out 150 plated dinners for a wedding at Monteverde without cutting into cake time. But he delivers plates that are pure perfection—on point and on time.
When the sandwich side of his shop closed down last year—the continuous catering orders just took over the business—it created a serious gap in the Irvington community, which continues today. While I never got the chance to taste one of the highly coveted Good-Life sandwiches, I caught the Korn ‘bug’ at one of his pop up restaurants, and am now (sigh) officially hooked.
The first to start the trend in Westchester, Korn hosts pop ups—and occasionally sells food (check the Good-Life Gourmet Facebook page for details)—at different locations around the county. Previously spearheading the Golden Knives Challenge, a cooking challenge that pitted several chefs against each other last year in Tarrytown, Korn is known for combining great atmosphere and fun for foodies.
And now (drumroll please)…I’d like to announce….
The IntoxiKate Dinner at Restaurant Maize
The next pop up, “Restaurant Maize,” features Korn’s upscale twist on traditional Mexican dishes. Guests will order three-courses off an a la carte menu served family-style on a hand-carved wood plank. (See the complete menu.) Korn was gracious enough to invite members of the IntoxiKate Westchester #FoodieNation to a special dinner Thursday, January 16th at 8:30 p.m. The a la carte menu will be served family-style, so let’s eat and be merry! (Limited seating available, so RSVP soon).
Bonus? The first five people to RSVP for the Chef’s Table get to taste of everything Restaurant Maize has to offer. Feel the heat from the kitchen, chat with the chef, and sample dishes from the menu… Anything can happen! $85 per person
If you can’t dine elbow to elbow with your fellow foodies Thursday night, don’t fret! Restaurant Maize runs until Saturday, January 18th. There are two seatings available each evening—7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.—so send RSVPs to [email protected] to get a spot.
