New Restaurant In White Plains: Ichiro

There’s something heating up in White Plains, and it’s not the weather (okay, the weather IS pretty hot this week). But I’m talking about the restaurant scene that seems to be exploding in the area. It started with Butterfield 8, then Lola’s Mexican Kitchen, and shortly after, Don Coqui popped up down the street. But the latest eatery to hit Mamaroneck Avenue offers “modern Japanese cuisine.” New restaurant in White Plains Ichiro hosted their grand opening party June 25th, and is pretty similar to another sushi place down the block.

#Menu

As far as sushi goes, expect a similar menu to Haiku, lunch specials, prices, and all. What’s different at Ichiro is more comprehensive entrées—yes, there’s teriyaki ($21 and under) and noodles ($10-$13), but there’s also offerings like roast organic chicken ($20) and Chilean sea bass ($26). The Asian influences show strong in dishes like the bird’s nest—prawns, chicken, bell peppers, asparagus, oyster mushrooms, sugar snap peas and cashews all housed in a crispy taro basket. Ichiro also offers hibachi dinners. While you’ll miss the traditional chef show (the dishes are prepared in the kitchen), you’ll still get a plateful for under $30.

#Decor

Again, fairly similar to the Haiku down the street, but Ichiro plays with colored accent lighting to exaggerate the architectural design of the space. There’s a variety of seating options—you can sit at the bar, grab a booth for a large group, or small table for a more intimate setting. The bar and dining room connect, however, so those looking for a quite dinner might be more interested in takeout.

#Ambiance

With a modern design and plenty of colored lights, Ichiro has the nightlife covered with their lounge feel. There restaurant is fairly big, and can accommodate up to 100 guests (think birthday/shower/party location).

Intoxikate Tip!

Don’t miss the yellowtail jalapeño appetizer, served with yuzo sauce!
