Irvington Newbie: Sambal Thai & Malaysian

Irvington is lucky. First, they received a hands-on education on Indian food  from Chef Navjot Arora. With Chutney Masala, diners got a literal taste of authentic Indian cuisine and, paired with his cooking classes and specialties geared towards the more adventurous, Arora literally schooled everyone on spices, origins of dishes, and culture from the region. With his next venture, Arora is at it again, teaming up with Chef Lucky Thai to launch Sambal, an eatery dedicated to authentic Thai and (soon!) Malaysian cuisine. […]

IntoxiKating Special at Chutney Masala

A little over a week ago, I invited Chef Navjot Arora of Chutney Masala (Irvington) on Fork This with IntoxiKate to chat about Indian food and his restaurant. I've been lucky enough to have more than a few conversations with Chef Arora, and I thought it would be interesting to share some of those topics with the Westchester #FoodieNation, while dispelling some of the "myths" about Indian food. (Trust me, it's NOT all curry.) Shortly before going on air, I received an extremely humbling email from Chef Arora, which we discussed on air. In short, he created a special menu [...]

NYE at Wolfert’s Roost in Irvington

Wolfert's Roost, opened shortly before Thanksgiving. In a few short months, the eatery has transformed into the new neighborhood hot spot, with Friday and Saturday dinner reservations filling up fast. I've been to the restaurant a few times to try the fried chicken (ah-mazing!) and the tuna papaya salad (an IntoxiKate favorite), but haven't devoted a blog post to it yet. Until now. The Roost is a collaboration between chefs Eric Korn, of Good-Life Gourmet, and Jennie Werts, formally of Ouest and Zengo in the city. The duo tag-teamed the menu to come up with a variety of dishes that [...]

IntoxiKate Event: Dinner at ‘Restaurant Maize’

I envy brides. Ok, it's not what you think—I'm not on cloud nine, daydreaming about the day where I can walk down the aisle in some bell-of-the-ball white dress. I am jealous of brides—particularly in Westchester—because they have custom menus prepared exclusively for them by Eric Korn. If you've heard of Good-Life Gourmet or tasted Korn's food, you know he's a stellar caterer. (I mean, he did just pin down the Best Caterer '13 title from Westchester Magazine.) With his attention to detail, persistence with presentation and culinary skills, it's hard to imagine him churning out 150 plated dinners for [...]
