Book Review: Great Balls of Cheese

Looking for a cheesy way to kick off your holiday party? Before heading to your local grocery story (or cheese monger), and head straight to the bookstore! Michelle Buffardi created Great Balls of Cheese, a recipe book filled with brilliant ways to incorporate cheese balls into any occasion. Recipes include: • Bored with your bean dip? Try crowd-pleasers like the zingy Mexican Black Bean Ball, a Cranberry Cheddar Ball, an updated Port Wine Cheese Ball (minus the scary pink color), and a bacon-filled Pigskin that’s perfect for game day. • Fun shapes like an adorable Herbed Caterpillar and Nacho Cheese [...]

Cowboy Steaks, Wine and Fireside Dining at Cellar 49

East Sunnyside Lane. If you ventured down Route 9 any further, you'd swear you were in Irvington. If the hidden location of the Tarrytown House Estate wasn't enough to keep you guessing, the windy roads and surprising number of buildings may be enough to throw you off the trail. But hunger always wins, and let me tell you my friends—this meal is well worth the journey. Venture down the stairs of this beautiful mansion, and a surprise awaits you—although this eatery's coined a tavern, don't expect a dive bar full of fried foods and ice cold beers. Here, you've got [...]

New Chef in the Mansion: Matthew Safarowic

Next time you're walking through the Hastings or Irvington farmer's markets, you may want to look for this face. Pay attention to what he picks up, because you're rubbing elbows with a New York Times rated-chef (rated "worth it" during his stint as executive chef at Butterfield 8). He may be the new chef at the recently renovated Mansion on Broadway  in White Plains, but don't expect any frills from Matthew Safarowic. He certainly didn't run a comb through his hair or press his chef's jacket before my visit, but that's not what I expect. Chef Safarowic gave me Chef Safarowic, [...]

Throw a Royal Event at The New York Palace

When you love food as much as I do, it's hard to find the perfect event space to celebrate a special occasion. While we've got plenty of amazing spaces in our own backyard offering incredible menus (look for a post featuring Westchester event planner Susie Mordoh coming soon...), I couldn't resist accepting an invitation to get a sneak peak at The New York Palace's renovations last night. The event, hosted in the enormous Towers Royal Suite (living room picture above) was an incredible event space, perfect for that lavish bridal or baby shower. Want to throw a Royal Event at [...]

Fourth of July Cocktail

I'm one of those goofy people who get really into holidays. I love a special occasion where I can play host—on Halloween you'll find me in full costume, platter full of "finger-food" trickery in hand. The Fourth of July is no different. I'll be decked out in red, white and blue, and so will everything else in my menu. But when it came to creating the perfect beverage for the holiday, I was drawing a complete blank. Sure I could put out the same thing I did last year, but instead I decided to use my Twitter connection with Slovenia, [...]
