Matt Kay, Chef + Owner of Cedar Street Grill

When Dobbs Ferry is a rocking, usually it’s Cedar Street Grill that’s a-popping. And it’s no wonder why—Chef Matt Kay serves up some seriously fun, flavorful food paired with stellar cocktails. We chat with Matt about a whole heck of a lot—celebrating CSG’s six year anniversary, his spring/summer menus, and his participation in this year’s Burger + Beer Blast during Westchester Magazine‘s Wine + Food Festival.

Fred Mastroianni, Owner of Little Big Bites Burger Bistro

When it comes to competing in Westchester Magazine‘s Burger & Beer Blast, Fred says he’s ready. Armed with a few varieties of his burger, he’s going to take on the 25+ other restaurants at the Kensico Dam Thursday, June 8th at 6 p.m. Thornwood’s Little Big Bites Burger Bistro has plenty to offer on their menu—from the Buffalo Blu (Pat La Frieda Beef Blend Burger Burger Coated in Panko Bread Crumbs, Deep Fried, Dipped in our House Made Buffalo Hot Sauce, Blue Cheese Spread, Crumbled Blue Cheese, Celery & Red Onion, Black Pepper Brioche Bun) to the Truffle (Pat La Frieda Beef Blend Burger Truffle Aioli, Sweet Balsamic Portobello, Brie, Black Pepper Brioche), Fred gives the low down on his burger bistro and his plan of attack. #gameon

Bryan Fabrizzio, Mixologist for The Castle Hotel & Spa

The Castle Hotel & Spa is well-known for its luxurious bedrooms, THANN Sanctuary Spa, and delicious dining options at Equus. You may have even visited The Castle to attend a wedding or special event. But you may not know about the beautiful pool, tucked between the greenery, almost resembling a secret grotto. You can get a peek at the pool (no dipping toes) and their amazing cocktails during their summer poolside series. Here, I chat with mixologist Bryan Fabrizzio about how to make his favorite summer cocktail—a simple white sangria.

Executive Chef David Nevins, Siegel Bros. Marketplace

If you haven’t visited the Siegel Bros. Marketplace in Mount Kisco, you’re missing on heck of a food experience. Offering robust, from scratch, prepared foods from their on-site kitchen, Executive Chef David Nevins sources a revolving selection of land and sea to create vegetarian, gluten-free, comforting and healthful dishes. Turns out, Nevins and New England seafood go hand-in-hand, and the chef has a passion and flare for preparing everything from clam chowda to crab cakes to clambakes. And the latter is what we dive into, as we collaborate on an upcoming event—the IntoxiKate Clambake with Siegel Bros. Marketplace kicks off Wednesday, June 14th at 7 p.m. (Make sure to listen in—the interview drops some serious #chefbombs!)

Executive Chef Andy Nusser, Tarry Lodge

Thin crusted, wood fired pizza with guanciale, black truffles, and a sunny side duck egg. These are things dreams are made of. Or, if you’re Executive Chef Andy Nusser, a menu option you’ve created with fellow celeb-chef Mario Batali at Tarry Lodge in Port Chester. In tonight’s chat, the executive chef talks about innovation and inspiration, as well as his participation in Westchester Magazine’s Wine & Food Festival’s newbie in the roster of events—Salute! A Wine Tasting Tour of Italy. The event is hosted in the Westchester Italian Cultural Center in Tuckahoe (tickets are $95 per person) and pairs Nusser’s Italian specialties with a variety of Italian wines. Swing by to watch him in action and reap the benefits—you’ll get a taste of Nusser’s Mortadella & Robiola Panini as well as a Peach Crostata with Lemon Thyme Ricotta. #yesplease

Kevin Zraly, Author and Wine Expert

When you go to big wine and food festivals, do you ever wonder who selects the variety of wines you are tasting? When it comes to Westchester Magazine’s Wine & Food Festival, Kevin Zraly is THE man. Okay, he’s THE wine man hands down. He’s pretty much been described as  “America’s most famous and entertaining wine teacher.” From selecting and serving the variety of Italian wines offered at Salute! A Wine Tasting Tour (Tuesday, June 6th) to handpicking the wines offered at Saturday’s Grand Tasting Village (June 10th), Zraly promises you’ll be enjoying some of the best, reasonably-priced wines out there. Listen in, and find out how many varieties of wine he tastes each year to keep up on the industry and expertise.

Sustainable Coffee (and news!) from Coffee Labs Roasters

by Katie Schlientz May 18, 2017
written by Katie Schlientz
coffee labs roasters

When I moved to Sleepy Hollow several years ago, I walked every evening down by the river, eventually making my way up the ginormous hill in Tarrytown. I will always have love for the river towns—there, I feel a sense of community I haven’t experienced in other towns in Westchester. It’s not just about being friendly to your neighbor; here, everyone seems to have a deep appreciation for the environment, local businesses, and the town. But my walks were filled with hellos, people watching, and (of course!) playful pups.

It may have been my love for dogs, the appreciation for the water bowl outside for my Stella, the intoxikating smell, or the combination of all three that led me to Coffee Labs Roasters for the first time. And once I went in, I was hooked. An institution in Tarrytown—and Westchester County—I was proud to pick up my coffee every morning from a local, independent coffeeshop, and I was rewarded with a cup of great tasting coffee. In all honesty, it is one of the places I miss since I’ve moved. Countless coffees were drank, meetings held, and work accomplished to the amazing aroma of that coveted bean.

Kate chats with Alicia Love, of Coffee Lab Roasters

Latte or cappuccino, iced or hot, sweetened or black, Coffee Labs Roasters hands down brews a perfect cup. Their stitch—hand-picking their farmers and honoring sustainable practices—led to not only a hot spot of a coffeeshop, but a growing wholesale business.

And the duo who started it all—Alicia and Mike Love—followed their passion and picked the perfect location to call home. Just as you’ll find that deep rooted community in the river towns, you’ll find the Loves digging in, supporting the county, and sharing a cup of hot Joe.

Check out Coffee Labs Roasters at Friday’s ArtBash from 6-9 p.m. at Arts Westchester in White Plains.

THE DETAILS

Owners Steve and Molli Hourihan opened their B Good Fairfield two years ago, and since then, it’s been a family focus. From local families popping in to enjoy a meal, to their friendly, knowledgeable staff, the neighborhood eatery is a flashback to the fast food joints of days past. Healthy options like grain bowls, salads, and smoothies litter the menu, and don’t forget about their customizable burger bar. The best part? B Good also offers a host of catering options for any occasion.

THE DETAILS

Looking for a great new brunch spot? Check out the new concept introduced by Frankie & Fanucci’s Wood Oven Pizzeria. Their ‘social brunch’  includes a variety of wood-fired breakfast pizza, brunch plates and sides, served family-style and made to share for $25 per person. Plus, the cost includes $15 worth of beer, wine, and process from their ‘Pour Your Own’ taproom with over 30 options on tap. Want more? No worries! Your personal chip-enabled card keeps track of your pours. After you’ve reached your allocated $15, you pay by the ounce for whatever you drink.

Upgrade the experience with the DIY Prosecco Bar! This $10 add-on provides the table with a tray of three fruit purees and juices, two liqueurs and two garnishes. It comes with suggested pairings for each, or you can mix and match. Each tray serves 3-4 people. To kick off the spring brunch season, Frankie & Fanucci‘s is offering a free DIY Prosecco Bar to each table with their social brunch through this weekend (4/30/17).

Food options include one wood-fired pizza (IntoxiKate favorite: Shroom and Egg), and brunch plates like Brioche Baked French Toast, Eggs Florentine, and Braised Short Rib and Egg.

Brunch:
