I’m one of those goofy people who get really into holidays. I love a special occasion where I can play host—on Halloween you’ll find me in full costume, platter full of “finger-food” trickery in hand. The Fourth of July is no different. I’ll be decked out in red, white and blue, and so will everything else in my menu.
But when it came to creating the perfect beverage for the holiday, I was drawing a complete blank. Sure I could put out the same thing I did last year, but instead I decided to use my Twitter connection with Slovenia, Chef Peter Kelly’s vodka, to see what they recommended. Turns out the Misha, a Ginger & Meyer Lemon Martini was their choice. While I am dying to try this (all of the ingredients are now sitting in the bar), I fell upon my Independence Day cocktail by pure coincidence…
While picking up some ingredients for my menu, I happened to come across a colorful display of Polar Seltzer. With just a minor (ok, major) addiction to seltzer, I was perplexed by flavors I’d never seen before—piña colada, ginger lemonade, mint mojito and cucumber melon. Thanks to my SodaStream, it’s been quite some time since I bought bottled seltzer. But I couldn’t resist. I picked up the cucumber melon and went on my merry way.
Completely parched by the time the groceries were unloaded at home, I poured myself a glass of the new seltzer over ice. I was blown away by the summery flavor. As I stretched out my arm to examine the bottle, I caught a glimpse of another glimmering on the counter… the bottle of Slovenia. Now, could how could I resist?

Sounds delicious!!! Can’t wait to give it a try this weekend. Happy 4th!!
Thanks Susie, you too! Let me know what you think. We also made some “adult” fruit pops with the Slovenia Vodka. We added a little of the vodka, some orange juice, blueberries, strawberries and pineapple to those plastic popsicle containers. We set them in the freezer over night, and today we are enjoying them! They are the perfect cocktail-hour snack (and help cool you down during the summer heat!).
